The holidays don’t have to be all that; you don’t have to have 95 people for dinner or have a tree 12 ft tall in your living room. You don’t have to run out and buy expensive presents. You don’t have to decorate your house the way Clark Griswold did in “Christmas Vacation” But if you want to then don’t forget to invite me!
No, the holidays can be quiet. You can work or you can be alone.
But do something nice for yourself no matter what. Buy yourself that little something that makes you smile. Watch some movies you like. Smile and say hello when you pass someone on the street or in the aisle of a supermarket. Get together with a friend and have some popcorn. Volunteer your time for a worthy cause.
Do something you want to do and don’t worry about Dan down the block who has all 203 of his closest relatives in his house and people 5 blocks away can hear them yelling. But if you want to go visit Dan and be his 204th guest, that fine too.
Christmas is a state of mind. You can celebrate it 365 days a year in some small way. It is not being happy and nice to people that you normally snub the rest of the year because that’s the way you think it has to be for this one day of the year.
