He’s not your friend…jealousy, envy. He may seem familiar to you; sliding up beside you and whispering in your ear that “Oh look- Sylvia has a new car and look at the old clunker you’re driving.” Or “Jay got that promotion; it should have been you.”
But he’s not being your friend- not at all. He’s just making you feel bad. Jealousy is a crummy feeling- I think that why the word “lousy” is part of it. He’s not telling you how to move towards the things you want.
Start by being grateful for what you have. Maybe you don’t have Sylvia’s new car but you still have a car- that’s a lot more than some people who have to walk everywhere they go or wait on a bus. Maybe you don’t have that promotion that Jay has but you still have a job- that many people wish they had (yes they do- I saw that face you made)
Being grateful makes you feel better. When you feel better you do better. When you feel better you actively find new paths- instead of just standing there getting mad. That gets you nowhere- and so does jealousy- nowhere fast.
